Flooring for children's bedrooms
When it comes to decorating a bedroom for children, a great place to start is from the ground up to build a foundation for the perfect hideaway. But which flooring is right for your bundle of joy?

We recommend you first choose between carpet (soft) flooring, and resilient (hard) flooring, before focussing on colour and design.

We discuss the attributes of all of these flooring types below.

Laminate and LVT
One thing is for certain: you will need a robust floor. With stamping feet and spilled afternoon treats your flooring choice must be ready for the rough and tumble of a growing child, as well as providing a reassuringly safe space for play, sleep and homework.

If your child’s bedroom needs to have the additional functionality of being a playroom and craft space, you may be drawn to the easy clean properties of resilient flooring such as laminate, LVT and vinyl

Laminate is a brilliant option if you are looking for an affordable wood-effect floor with all the ease of cleaning of laminate. However, if you are looking for something even tougher and even waterproof, you may find LVT is the best choice for your home. LVT is 100% waterproof and is a popular choice for bathrooms, so it will easily withstand the rough and tumble and messy play that your child is sure to throw at it!

Cushioned vinyl
You could also think laterally and consider using cushioned vinyl flooring, which is normally used in kitchens, bathrooms, utilities and hallways. Cushioned vinyl provides an easily cleanable and 100% waterproof surface, and is also comfortable and warm underfoot.

All of our vinyl flooring is tested for its anti-slip properties, and there is a slip rating of at least R10 across our ranges.

With a diverse selection of wood, stone and patterned designs available across the ranges of vinyl flooring, you will find the perfect style for your children’s room.

Carpet
If cosiness and comfort are your key aims, then carpet will be your obvious choice. Providing a soft and warm surface underfoot, carpet is wonderfully comfortable due to the flexibility of its fibres and the spongey nature of the underlay underneath.

If your child has their heart set on something bright and colourful for their bedroom floor, we have options available for all budgets. The majority of our ranges, including the affordable and vivid Firework, are even bleach cleanable. When picking out a carpet, many parents of smaller children prefer a bleach-cleanable carpet, which can be thoroughly cleaned in the case of muddy footprints or the odd accident.

The next steps
After you have narrowed down what your child needs from their room, pay a visit to your local flooring retailer and discuss your requirements. You could even take your little ones with you and have them pick their final choice from the options available.

Your local Lifestyle Floors retailer will be happy to direct you to the products that will make your home look beautiful while using their experience to give you peace of mind that you have made the right choice. Use our online Find a Retailer tool to locate your nearest Lifestyle Floors retailer.
