Interior Styling with Pastel Colours
Adding pastel shades into your interior adds sophistication and subtlety to your room. Pastels can be used in many interesting ways; these soft shades work with neutrals, contrast with darks and add definition and positivity to white or cream colour schemes.

However, it can be tricky to use pastels as many people fear that they could become overbearing. Here, we will explain how to strike the perfect balance for your home.

Perfect pastels
Pastel shades are always on trend and they are easy to introduce throughout the home. Think of soft shades - blush pink or the palest blue teamed with ivory and cream carpets. In the bathroom delicate mint greens or aquas contrast in the bathroom, perhaps with darker timber designs.

The choices are endless and there’s plenty of inspiration available. The emphasis of a whole colour scheme, especially one that’s pretty much monochrome, can be switched up in a very short time with the addition of some perfectly placed pastels. Consider opting for a new feature wall, which could be painted or papered, or a selection of cushions for a budget friendly option. If you fancy a more involved but still affordable renovation, consider re-painting some kitchen cabinets or bathroom furniture.

Pastels as accent shades
Avoid the sugar-sweet overload of a pastel colour scheme by introducing some consistent background shades. Think strong neutrals, such as wood-look or slate-style LVT or laminates, while keeping a  balance between light and dark shades. It’s an interior design technique that proves successful time and time again.

For example, if you are happy with your mint green kitchen cabinets but slightly less pleased with the neutral flooring, why not ramp up the contrast by introducing new, darker wood flooring? This will help your mint green cabinets to stand out as a striking pastel accent against the floors. Try some of the darker wood designs from our luxury vinyl tile (LVT) collection for a beautiful, but hardwearing option.

It’s also worth remembering that your choice of flooring is likely going to stay in place for quite a while, so building-in flexibility with the remainder of your design scheme is a clever idea to increase the longevity of the floor.

Try transforming open shelves in a kitchen or a bathroom cabinet with a coat of paint. Even a small touch of a pastel tone will add style and uplift to an otherwise plain and neutral scheme. In the living and dining rooms you could consider adding a splash of pastel by introducing a pouffe or individual cushions.

Cosy cottages
The #cottagecore trend has gained traction in the last few months, with pretty pastel shades and old-fashioned floral prints a popular way of embracing this fashionable look. Think of soft, pallid floral fabrics, tapestry cushions, Victorian-style painted jugs, traditional tea-cups and saucers and so on, all featuring pastel shades of pink, green and blue.

If you fancy a cottage-style interior look, make sure to ground these schemes with the darker tones of aged or golden oak on the floor. Try our Colosseum Light Oak LVT for an authentic golden tone that will add warmth to a cottage-style scheme or Chelsea Extra Premium Oak laminate for a timber that is positive enough to act as a contrast to pastels.

Alternatively you might prefer carpet in the bedroom and living areas; the pale shades of Montego Bay-Calypso and Chapter - Peaceful would be a fabulous contrast against a collection of pretty pastels – we’re thinking of chintzy sofas and patchwork quilts.

Scandi Style
The cool elegance of Scandi-style is very achievable, with a current enthusiasm for creating ‘hygge’ style warmth and comfort whilst still maintaining a restrained, elegant element of Scandi sophistication. Think along the lines of sheepskin throws and cushions, pale carpets and the warm looks of natural wood tones for bathrooms and kitchens.

To give your hygge room your own twist, accessorise with cool pale blues, soft pinks, pale apricots and the lightest of lemon yellows. Adding in retro-style accessories such as vases, simple cotton or linen bedding and cushions in washed-out pastel tones, paired with white, light timber-style flooring, such as our Notting Hill - Thacker Oak or Colosseum Limed Oak LVT.
