The best floors for bathrooms
Are you planning some home improvements this year? Flooring plays a key part in any new interior scheme, so needs careful consideration. In a large room it’s a big influence on the overall colour theme. In a smaller space, such as a bathroom, a new floor can add a touch of distinctive colour or provide a neutral base for bold patterns and colours used elsewhere.

If you’re thinking about a new bathroom, it can be a good idea to consider the flooring at the same time as looking at fittings and furniture. It’s important that all the different aspects of the scheme work harmoniously together, and it may be easier to install new flooring before the rest of the bathroom fittings.

Love AQUA
Love AQUA is our exclusive laminate flooring, which is water resistant and so perfectly suitable for bathrooms. It requires an underlay, such as our Ultra-Light XPS.

Love Aqua is very easy to lay, and your bathroom won’t require any special tanking or preparation. To ensure your finished floor is protected from water ingress, your fitter will need to use flexible silicone around the perimeter of the room and any pipes (step by step instructions can be found here).

The Love AQUA collection includes Coast, a rich deep oak design and Ripple, a bleached-white design that would give a real beach-side flavour to a new bathroom. Remember, the only laminate from our laminate collection we recommend for bathroom use is Love AQUA, and with 16 different wood-effect designs to choose from there will be something for everyone.

Vinyl
Vinyl is eminently suitable for the bathroom – it’s easy to mop and keep clean, and it usually comes in 2m, 3m and 4m width (although our GeorgiaTex is even available in 5m width) so there’s little wastage during fitting, even in smaller bathrooms and en suites. You can choose from a huge range of designs, which can include realistic wood, stone, slate and mosaic styles, as well as ‘all-over’ patterns with no obvious start or finish to them.

Naturally, vinyl must be laid on a smooth sub-floor, otherwise any minor bumps and blemishes in the sub-floor may show through the floorcovering. If you choose a vinyl with a textile/felt backing, that type of backing will absorb some sub floor imperfections.  Always ask your retailer to survey your existing sub floor to find out whether it’s suitable for a vinyl floorcovering, regardless of whether you are choosing a textile backed vinyl or not.

All our vinyls come with a wear warranty for peace of mind – and are a practical and affordable choice for any bathroom (or utility room, laundry room or kitchen!).

Luxury Vinyl Tile
Luxury Vinyl Tiles are often referred to as LVT, and are a popular choice for bathrooms because of their durability and beautiful and naturally realistic designs. LVT has the added benefit of being 100% waterproof.

Different formats, such as planks or tiles, are available which are designed and sometimes textured to replicate an easy-care alternative to stone or ceramic tiles. There are even super realistic wood planks, which would look amazing in any bathroom.

There are different types of LVT; clic and dryback. Clic LVT is simple to install as the planks literally ‘click’ together. They can be installed over most types of dry, level, sub-floors.

Dryback LVT, sometimes called stick-down, is glued directly to the sub-floor, and can include designer inlay strips between tiles or planks to replicate grout or cement joints, or to create different inlay-style and border patterns.

Lifestyle Floors always advises that LVT should be installed by professionals, and our retailers will also be able to offer design advice and help so that borders and motifs are perfectly positioned.
